Anise Seed Ground
Anise ground imparts a sweet licorice flavor to baking, tea and other dishes. Native to Egypt and the Eastern Mediterranean and now cultivated in southern Europe, southern Russia, the Middle East, North Africa, Pakistan, China, Chile, Mexico, and the United States, Anise Seed has been used for generations in both sweet and savory dishes. Also widely used to flavor pastries, such as the German bread Anisbrod, Italian pizzelles and biscotti.
Traditionally added to Mediterranean and Asian dishes, you can stir Ground Anise into sauces and stir fries. Traditionally added to Mediterranean and Asian dishes, you can also use it as a component of Chinese Five Spices mix.
It contains about 2.5 percent of the essential oil Anethole, and has been used medicinally since prehistoric times. It’s expectorant and mucus clearing effects on the body make a great addition to herbal tea. Also used to flavor absinthe, anisette, and Pernod liqueurs, Anise has a multitude of uses.
